Southeast Tennessee Development District - Community & Economic Development Department Intern - Part Time/Temporary

The Community & Economic Development Department is seeking a part-time/temporary Intern who will work directly with current planning staff and assist with a variety of land use planning activities such as advising communities on matters related to zoning and subdivision regulations. Intern will also be working with existing staff on a stormwater planning project. Other work may include grant writing, administration and other duties as assigned. Attendance at evening meetings may also be required.

The ideal candidate will have or be working toward a bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, political science, geography or a related field. Those currently seeking a master’s degree in one of the aforementioned areas are preferred. Interested candidates should have some educational or professional background in planning and government. Knowledge and previous experience in smart growth, stormwater, civil engineering and green infrastructure is preferred.

Senior Planner

The City of Maryville is seeking an experienced professional to fill the position of Senior Planner. Responsible for directing the planning program of the city; an initial focus of this position will be to lead the effort to update the city’s land use plan and zoning ordinance. Reports to Director of Development Services. Master’s degree in planning, public administration or a related field or equivalent; AICP certification and supervisory experience required. Hiring range: $60,000-$79,000 DOE plus an excellent benefits package. Deadline to apply: Friday, August 1, 2014.
