COMMUNITY PLANNER

The State of Tennessee, Local Planning Assistance Office has openings for the position of Community Planner 1, Community Planner 2 and Community Principal Planner. Individuals hired into these positions work with municipal and county planning programs providing staff advice at planning commission meetings, preparing comprehensive and strategic planning elements, developing and implementing land use controls, conducts legal research on land use and zoning issues, and advises the Mayor and Planning Commission Chairman regarding all community planning activities.

To qualify, candidates must complete a State of Tennessee employment application and be rated on the State’s Career Service Employment Register. The Register will open April 22 for a 30-day period. Lakeway Area Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization
Transportation Planner/Transit Planner

Work entails working with local transit providers, participating in studies including, but not limited to, the Long Range Transportation Plan, Transportation Improvement Program, and the Unified Planning Work Program, and presenting information and recommendations to various boards and agencies. Position requires knowledge of the FTA planning process including, but not limited to, sections 5303, 5307 and 5311 federal regulations, Title VI, in addition to MPO regulations and processes.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with citizens and policy officials to create a vision of a local transportation system that is in concert with land use policy and considers transit, alternative transportation, future corridor preservation, freight planning, bicycle and pedestrian planning, and Intelligent Transportation Systems. Candidate will also have a background in developing and managing complex planning projects and experience with GIS. Computer software knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and ArcGIS mapping. Travel demand modeling preferred but not required.

Requirements: A Master’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years experience, preferably with an emphasis in urban planning, geography/ GIS, or public administration.
